The Association of Migraine Disorders (AMD) is led by a Board of Directors that is passionate about migraine, patient care, physician education, and research. The members come from a variety of specialty areas, including otolaryngology, neurology, and neurotology. Learn more about our board members below.

Frederick Godley, MD, FACS

Frederick A. Godley, III MD, FACS is a general otolaryngologist in private practice in Rhode Island. Dr. Godley recognizes that migraine disease is a complex genetic neurovascular disease with a spectrum of symptoms beyond headache. He is a champion of improved care of those with migraine and its many comorbidities. He has founded the Association of Migraine Disorders (AMD), a nonprofit organization dedicated to patient and professional education, interdisciplinary research and public awareness. AMD hosts the international migraine awareness day, Shades for Migraine, celebrated on June 21. AMD provides a free, 4-module, 6.5 CME course in migraine management, The Migraine Toolbox, available on MyCME.com. AMD hosts the new migraine research platform, The Migraine Science Collaborative, designed to connect and inform clinicians, clinical researchers and basic scientists.

He received his medical degree from Boston University, completed his general surgical residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and his specialty training at the Yale – New Haven Hospital. Dr. Godley has taught young surgeons at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary and currently the Rhode Island Hospital.

Mark E. Mehle

Mark E. Mehle, MD, FACS, is a member of Southwest General Medical Group ENT Associates and is Clinical Assistant Professor of Anatomy at Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown, Ohio. He is also section chief of Otolaryngology at Southwest General Hospital, in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Mehle graduated from Youngstown State University, summa cum laude, with a bachelor of science degree in combined science and earned his medical degree at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. He completed his internship in general surgery and his residency in otolaryngology at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Mehle is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology. A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Mehle is also a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, the American Rhinological Society,and the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy. He is a board member of the Association of Migraine Disorders. He has published several articles on various medical topics in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Current Opinion in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, and Head and Neck, among others. He is editor of the book Sinus Headache, Migraine, and the Otolaryngologist published by Springer in 2017. Dr. Mehle has conducted clinical research on sinus headache and rhinitis and has lectured and taught across the country.

Abigail Chua, DO

Abigail Chua, DO

Dr. Abigail Chua, DO is a board-certified neurologist and fellowship-trained headache specialist. She received her medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, completed her neurology residency at Temple University, and trained at the Jefferson Headache Center in Philadelphia for her fellowship in headache medicine. Dr. Chua previously served as education director for the Hartford Healthcare Headache Center in CT, as well as Program Director for their fellowship program in Headache and Facial Pain. Dr. Chua recently moved back to Pennsylvania and now works as the Director of Neurology at Geisinger Health System. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Chua is also a professor with the Thomas Jefferson School of Nursing, and currently works with the Jefferson School of Nursing and the Jefferson Headache Center to teach an online graduate education course to healthcare professionals seeking advanced training in headache medicine.

Michael Teixido, MD

Michael Teixido is an otolaryngologist with a special interest in medical and surgical conditions that affect hearing and balance.  He was born in Wilmington, Delaware and developed an interest in ear surgery because of a hereditary hearing condition in his family.  He actively pursues his goals to advance the study and understanding of problems involving hearing, balance and general otolaryngology through his participation in many national professional organizations and through frequent lectures to his professional colleagues and the public. In collaboration with the Delaware Biotechnical Institute Dr.Teixido has created unique 3D materials for teaching anatomy, surgery, and pathophysiology.

Dr. Teixido has an active neurotologic practice. He is the director of the Delaware Otologic Medicine and Surgery Fellowship, director of the Balance and Mobility center of Christiana Care, and co-director of the Pediatric Cochlear Implant and Auditory Rehabilitation Program of the duPont Hospital for Children. He teaches residents in otolaryngology regularly at Thomas Jefferson, University of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Jennifer Robblee, MD

Jennifer Robblee, M.D., M.Sc., FRCPC

Dr. Jennifer Robblee, M.D., M.Sc., FRCPC is an assistant professor of neurology for the Lewis Headache Center at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona. She completed her medical school training and residency at the University of Toronto in 2010 and 2015, respectively. She completed her masters of science in quality improvement and patient safety in 2016. In 2015, she started as a general neurologist at the University Health Network with the University of Toronto where she also developed a headache clinic as well as community headache program. Three years into practice she left to complete a headache fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona. Dr. Robblee joined the Lewis Headache Center in 2019. She believes in combining the art and science of medicine to provide innovative, evidence-base, patient-centered care.

Mary Franklin

Mary Franklin

Mary Franklin retired as the Executive Director of the National Headache Foundation on November 3, 2021 – a post she had held since June, 2016. She joined the National Headache Foundation staff in September, 2011 as Director of Operations. She previously held several positions at the Diamond Headache Clinic in Chicago in the nursing and the administrative departments. She retired from the Clinic as Vice President of Publishing and Administration in September, 2011.

Until it ceased publication, Mary was the Managing Editor of the magazine, Head Wise. Previously, she served as Managing Editor of the professional journals, Headache Quarterly, and Headache and Pain – Current Treatment and Research. She has authored several articles on headache, and with Doctor Seymour Diamond is the coauthor of Conquering Your Migraine (2001) and Headache Through the Ages (2005). A native Chicagoan, she received a Master of Arts in Chicago Studies at Loyola University Chicago, where she had studied nursing. She also received a B.Ph. degree in History from Northwestern University in Evanston.

Currently, she lives in Wilmette, Illinois, and she continues in headache advocacy as an emeritus member of the Coalition for Headache and Migraine Patients (CHAMP), and serves as Chair of its Governance Committee. Mary has served as an Ambassador for Miles for Migraine, and serves on the Board of ClusterBusters, Headache and Migraine Policy Forum, and has participated in several Headache on the Hill events.

Mary Herne, FNP-C, is a Kanienkehaka (Mohawk) and Wake'nehsi:io (Snipe Clan) from the community of Akwesasne. She has worked full-time as a primary care provider for her community's medical clinic, Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services, since October 2018. Mary received her Family Nurse Practitioner training through St. John Fisher College in 2018 while working full-time as an operating room nurse at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. In June 2022, she received her post-master's certificate in Advanced Headache Diagnosis and Management through Thomas Jefferson University's Program. Since completing the program, she has dedicated her spare time to advocating for awareness of the prevalence of headache disorders in Indigenous Communities. Her passion has led her to be a recent participant in the American Migraine Foundation's Emerging Leaders program.

Mary's passion stems from her lived experience of migraine with aura and seeing her sibling and multiple relatives live with migraine. With her personal and professional experiences, she hopes to improve headache medicine within her community. She has plans to expand headache medicine advocacy beyond her community of Akwesasne to other Indigenous Communities across the United States.

Andrea D. Murphy, MSN, APRN, ANP-BC, NEA-BC, AQH

Andrea D. Murphy, MSN, APRN, ANP-BC, NEA-BC, AQH

Andrea Murphy is a board-certified adult primary nurse practitioner with extensive experience in headache diagnosis, treatment and management. She has been a practicing nurse since 2009 and went on to help establish the first headache medicine program at Hartford HealthCare (HHC) in 2015. She continues to practice as a headache specialist in private practice in South Windsor, CT.

From her diverse background in internal medicine, she applies a unique patient centered approach where each person with headache is seen as an individual and offered a tailored treatment plan. Andrea has a deep commitment to medical education and works to educate clinicians and patients in the approach to headache. Andrea is most passionate about migraine advocacy and empowering others to improve their own health and well-being. 

Areas of clinical interest include holistic non-pharmacological treatments of headache, migraine during pregnancy, chronic migraine, and menstrual related migraine.

Deanna Duggan, DNP, APRN, CPNP-PC, PMHS

Deanna Duggan is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Headache Specialist with 20 years’ experience. Dr. Duggan was born in Houston, Texas and completed her baccalaureate nursing degree at McNeese State University in 1998 and graduate pediatric nursing studies at Wright State University in 2002. She earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2019 at Texas Woman’s University. 

Dr. Duggan aims to educate children and adolescents about their neurological condition and offer treatment options to improve their quality of life. She strives to thoroughly address medical and behavioral factors that impact the health of pediatric patients who suffer chronic, disabling neurologic disorders and has been recognized and rewarded for excellent clinical care at Texas Children’s Hospital. Dr. Duggan is an active participant in state and national professional organizations where she has served on several committees including past president of the Houston Area Chapter of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners.

Dr. Duggan is motivated to contribute to nursing and medical science by teaching clinicians in training and designing clinical investigations inclusive of holistic interventions to help children and adolescents achieve their best health.

Caroline Stowe is a family nurse practitioner with an additional qualification in headache medicine. She completed her Bachelor and Masters of Science in Nursing at the Johns Hopkins University and then earned her Doctorate in Nursing Practice at George Mason University (GMU). Caroline is on faculty at GMU for the family nurse practitioner program. She holds a national board certification with the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a family nurse practitioner. Caroline is an active member of several professional organizations including the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners, American Headache Society and the National Headache Foundation.

Vera Gibb, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, AQH, CCTP is a Family Nurse Practitioner in primary care and an Assistant Professor, Graduate Studies Department, School of Nursing, of The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston. Dr. Alicia Duyvejonck is the program director and lead nurse practitioner at Genesis Headache Clinic in Davenport, IA. Dr. Duyvejonck graduated with her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from the University of Iowa in 2014 and worked in general outpatient neurology for 9 years. She obtained her Added Qualification in Headache certification through the National Headache Foundation in 2018. She is passionate about educating other APPs and primary care providers regarding migraine and has served as a lecturer in multiple capacities, providing education for healthcare providers through St. Ambrose University PA and PT programs, Quad Cities APN/PA Alliance, APP2APP Virtual Lectures, Iowa Chapter of the American College of Cardiology, Iowa Nurse Practitioner Society, Iowa Neurological Society and American Headache Society. She is also a frequent speaker and consultant for multiple pharmaceutical companies that deal with migraine medication. Dr. Duyvejonck also volunteers her time to provide headache  and neurology related education for local support groups and public school systems.  She is an active member of the American Headache Society, Iowa NP Society, American Association of Neurology, Iowa Neurological Society and the National Headache Foundation.

Natalia Zorrilla is a board-certified pediatric nurse practitioner with 14 years combined experience as an advanced practice provider and critical care nurse at top-ranked facilities. In 2018 she completed her masters of science in nursing at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Natalia currently works as a nurse practitioner at the Pediatric and Adolescent Headache Center in UCSF. She has conducted clinical research on pediatric headache and has lectured her peers and primary care providers on pediatric headache and migraine management. She also has been a guest lecturer for advanced practice provider students at the UCSF School of Nursing. Natalia is a member of the American Headache Society (AHS) and the Headache Cooperative of the Pacific (HCOP).

Karen Williams DNP, FNP-BC, AQH, FAANP

Dr. Karen Williams has 40 years’ experience in the health care field and has extensive experience in utilizing an integrative approach to headache management. She currently works with several national organizations to promote headache education and continues to promote auricular therapy as an adjunctive treatment for pain management.

Dr. Williams retired from federal service in April 2023, where she was the Deputy Director for the Headache Center of Excellence (HCoE) at the Central Virginia Veterans Affairs Healthcare System facility, Richmond VA, for three years. Prior to this Dr. Williams directed the Headache Clinic at the Central Texas Veterans Healthcare System, Temple TX for six years, after serving five years treating service members and Veterans at the Traumatic Brain Injury Program, Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany. 

While working at the VA, Dr. Williams was a member of the Office of Nursing Service Pain Committee, serving as a subject matter expert for alternative medicine and the use of acupuncture for pain reduction in the Veteran population.  Dr. Williams also served as the co-chair of the National HCoE education committee, coordinating and disseminating educational activities on headache management to Veterans and providers. Dr. Williams was on the work group which updated the VA/DoD clinical practice guidelines: “The Primary Care Management of Headache”, which were released in September 2023.

Dr. Williams completed a 300-hour medical acupuncture program in 2013 and has national certification in auricular acupuncture and certification as a Battlefield Acupuncture Instructor. In addition, Dr. Williams holds the National Headache Foundation Certificate in Added Qualification in Headache Medicine.

Dr. Williams has over 20 years of experience in public speaking in local, national and international venues, on health education and disease prevention programs. She has published multiple articles on concussion care and headache management and continues to encourage and mentor fellow colleagues, in integrative health care for those with headache and chronic pain.

Maria Machala NEW

Maria Machala, NP, MS

Maria Machala, NP, MS

Maria Machala is a certified nurse practitioner and has worked in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Colorado since 2015 specializing in otology/neurotology. She has a special interest in vestibular migraine and in the overlap between migraine and Meniere’s disease and other otologic conditions. She has presented both locally and nationally on vestibular migraine. She serves as a guest lecturer at the Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner schools within the University of Colorado and is a clinical mentor to students in these programs. She is a proctor for workshops at the yearly Society of PAs in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (SPAO-HNS) conference, teaching advanced practice providers who work in otolaryngology how to perform otologic procedures and comprehensive vestibular evaluations and provide migraine management within the context of otologic and vestibular disease.

Brandy Hughes DNP, APRN, FNP-C, AQH

Brandy Hughes DNP, APRN, FNP-C, AQH

Brandy Hughes has been with Atlanta Neurology since 2009. She obtained her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from the University of Alabama magna cum laude. She is also an alumna of the Medical College of Georgia where she received both her bachelor’s (BSN) and master’s (MSN) degrees in nursing with honors. She is nationally certificated by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and from the American Board of Neuroscience Nursing as a Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse (CNRN). She obtained a Certificate of Added Qualification in Headache Medicine (AQH) from the National Headache Foundation which validates her expertise and credibility in headache management. In addition, Brandy Hughes received the honor of being selected as the winner for the 2022 National Headache Foundation Headache Hero as an exceptional healthcare professional. 

Her doctorate research concentrated on headache management, primarily using Botox® (onabotulinumtoxinA) in the prevention of chronic migraines, which at the time was a new and innovative treatment option (Botox® gained FDA approval for chronic migraine prevention in 2010). On a local and national level, she provides educational lectures to healthcare providers on headache management. She has many years of inpatient and outpatient experience working in neurology and is affiliated with Emory St. Joseph’s as a community provider. Dr. Hughes’ medical model is focused on patient education. She feels education is paramount for understanding and managing neurological diseases.

Lindsey Plato-Johnson DNP, FNP-BC, AQH

Lindsey Plato-Johnson DNP, FNP-BC, AQH

Dr. Lindsey Plato-Johnson is a dedicated family nurse practitioner with a focus on women's health. She received her nurse practitioner training from Johns Hopkins University and completed her doctoral training at Chatham University, where she focused on the delivery of specialized care through telehealth. Dr. Plato-Johnson continues to center her care on providing specialty care through telemedicine to improve access for her patients. Additionally, she obtained her Certificate in Added Qualification (AQH) in Headache Medicine, allowing her to provide expert care for patients experiencing headaches. Dr. Plato-Johnson also serves as an esteemed adjunct professor at the University of Southern California, where she shares her knowledge and expertise with the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Natalia Danelich, MSN, CRNP, FNP-C

Natalia Danelich, MSN, CRNP, FNP-C

Natalia Danelich is a nationally certified family nurse practitioner who specializes in the treatment of headache disorders at Jefferson Headache Center in Philadelphia, PA. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology degree at Drexel University and then earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Thomas Jefferson University. She graduated with both Master of Science as a Family Nurse Practitioner and became AANP certified for clinical practice in 2017. She is involved in the entire continuum of care for patients in headache medicine from managing outpatient infusions, diagnosing new headache conditions, establishing treatment plans, post-hospitalization follow ups for inpatient management, and injections of acute and preventive medications. She is an active member of the American Headache Society and Lead Nurse Practitioner of one of the largest headache centers in the country.  

Most recently, she has worked on an interdisciplinary team of pain medicine, neurointerventional radiology, and headache medicine to manage Spontaneous Intracranial Hypotension and Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension. She is passionate about expanding clinical education for providers with her contribution to the Post-Graduate Certificate Program in Advanced Headache Diagnosis and Management at Thomas Jefferson University. 

Her interests lie in patient advocacy, provider education, clinical research, and initiatives to allow advanced practice providers to work to the full extent of their licensing.

Amy Tees, FNP-C, AQH

Amy Tees, FNP-C, AQH

Amy Tees has been a Nurse practitioner for past 20 years in neurology with past 12 years being mainly in headache. Amy got certified in headache management from the National Headache Foundation. She also completed her post master’s certificate in headache medicine from Jefferson University in the first class for this specialty. She has two teenagers and loves to spend time with them when they are willing! She herself has chronic migraine and has been on or is currently on multiple medications for this so she really understands her patient’s trials. She works in Tucson AZ where she grew up and loves the dessert. She is afraid of snow! She is very passionate about teaching and volunteers as a board member with the local nonprofit “Each Brain Maters” in order to go around the community and teach about brain health and brain disorders.

Jessica M. Cain, PA-C, AQH, MPAS

Jessica is a board certified physician assistant. She graduated in 2004 from South University in Savannah Georgia. She started practicing in neurology in 2005. She realized quickly that the field of neurology was her perfect fit. Throughout her career, she has practiced in the general neurology setting, but has always had a passion for headache medicine. As a migraine sufferer herself, she is compassionate about helping her patients optimize their headache treatment. She thoroughly believes that both provider and patient education in headache medicine is key to treatment success. This therefore led her to pursue and receive her AQH in 2021. 

Not only has she practiced in an outpatient neurology setting, she has participated in a large scope of research trials. She has contributed to a multitude of various advisory boards, and she continues to actively speak for various pharmaceutical companies. She enjoys educating other APP‘s about topics in neurology and looks forward to assisting in the ongoing growth of fellow neurology APP‘s.

Jaclyn Galinaitis, DMSc, PA-C

Jaclyn is a certified physician assistant from Fort Lauderdale, Fl. She graduated in 2011 from Barry University with her Master's in Clinical Medical Science, after which she began working in Neurology. She completed her AQH in headache medicine from the National Headache Foundation in 2021 and founded a multi-disciplinary headache clinic at the Phil Smith Neuroscience Institute at Holy Cross Health. In 2022, she completed her Doctor of Medical Science degree at the University of Lynchburg. Jaclyn practices general neurology with a focus on headache medicine. She strives to educate and advocate for her patients for optimal treatment outcomes. In addition, she is a strong advocate for Advanced Practice Providers and their role within the healthcare team. She is a preceptor for Nova Southeastern University Physician Assistant Program and moderates a web page for Neurology Physician Assistant Moms to collaborate and support each other as women in medicine.

Theresa Webster, MSN, PMHNP-BC, is an ANCC board-certified psychiatric–mental health nurse practitioner with more than fifteen years of experience providing comprehensive mental health care. She is the founder of Webster Psychiatric Center and currently practices in private practice, offering medication management and therapeutic support to children, adolescents, and adults. While physically based in Massachusetts, she is licensed to provide care in ten states, including MA, NH, NJ, NY, FL, CT, PA, WA, OR, and ME.

A graduate of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Theresa brings a broad clinical background to her work with individuals facing depression, anxiety disorders, ADHD, and trauma-related conditions. Her clinical style centers on truly understanding each patient’s lived experience and creating personalized treatment plans that align with their goals, strengths, and daily realities.

Theresa has a particular interest in the intersection between mental health and chronic pain. Michelle Sonnichsen-Kumm is a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner with over 20 years of diverse healthcare experience, specializing in emergency care, urgent care, and primary care. Her extensive clinical background has cultivated a deep commitment to patient-centered care and comprehensive health management.  

Diagnosed with migraine at the age of three, Michelle has personally navigated the complexities of living with various types of headache and migraine disorders throughout her life. These experiences, coupled with the impact of migraine within her family, have driven her passion for advancing education, awareness, and treatment strategies for headache and facial pain disorders.  

Currently pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), Michelle aspires to influence the future of headache medicine through research and educational initiatives aimed at improving management and prevention strategies. Her dedication to empowering patients and healthcare providers with knowledge reflects her mission to transform care for those affected by chronic pain and neurological conditions.

Meg Wildes, DNP, MBA, FNP-BC

Meg Wildes, DNP, MBA, FNP-BC (she/her), is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in headache and migraine management. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2016), Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Administration from Western Governors University (2024), and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Gonzaga University (2010).

Meg began her career in the cardiac medical ICU at Johns Hopkins with a strong foundation of evidence-based practice and education. During her doctoral training, she studied family practice and implemented a project to enhance resilience in graduate nursing students. As an advanced practice provider, she has focused on adult neurology, with an emphasis on migraine and cephalalgia management since 2018. Meg is a member of the AAN (American Academy of Neurology), AHS (American Headache Society), and holds an Added Qualification in Headache Medicine from the NHF (National Headache Foundation).

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Wildes teaches at Gonzaga University, volunteers in her local community and at national advocacy events such as Headache on the Hill, and is the founder and CEO of Harbor Med, a health consulting practice focused on clinical and community education. She is passionate about wellness, mentoring, and community engagement. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, learning, and exploring the South Sound region.

Christina M. Duffy-Henriques, MSN, APRN, NP-c, AQH, is an Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner specializing in General Neurological Practice, with a dedicated focus on the comprehensive management of migraine and complex headache disorders. 

In 2020, she earned the prestigious Certificate of Added Qualification in Headache Medicine (AQH) from the National Headache Foundation, a distinction that highlights her advanced expertise in diagnosing and treating various primary and secondary headache conditions. Her clinical approach emphasizes evidence-based therapies, including the latest preventative treatments and acute interventions tailored to improve patient quality of life. 

Christina completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, graduating with a 4.0 GPA. She holds national board certification through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). 

Before joining Neurology Associates PA of Maitland, FL, as a Nurse Practitioner, she spent six years as a registered nurse in the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit at AdventHealth Orlando, gaining critical experience in high-acuity neurological care. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, attending church, and staying active.

The Association of Migraine Disorders (AMD) is focused on bridging the gap between many medical specialties in the management of migraine disease. To help bridge those gaps, AMD looks to its Specialty Representative Advisory Board which includes clinicians from a wide range of specialties. The goal of this board is to grow and strengthen migraine care across specialties.
