Emotional Support for People with Migraine

A collaboration between 7 Cups and the Association of Migraine Disorders

The Association of Migraine Disorders has teamed up with 7 Cups, an online emotional support service! Through this partnership, we hope to build a space where people living with migraine can talk about whatever is on their mind. If you are struggling on your journey with migraine, we encourage you to give 7 Cups a try so you can connect with someone that may be able to help.

When therapy isn’t an option and for those times where stress and anxiety comes unexpectedly, 7 Cups is a text-chat option that is available at all hours of the day, with the perk of being anonymous. There are three ways to get involved, you can become a member, you can become a listener or you can be both!

How It Works

7 Cups is run like a marketplace. When an individual reaches out to connect,  available Listeners are notified. The first Listener to respond can then begin a conversation with the individual in need of support. If an individual wants to connect to a specific Listener, they can request a direct connection by visiting that Listener’s profile. There are a number of ways you can connect to others through 7 Cups: you can have a one-on-one chat, join a group chat and participation in forums.

Members:

As a member, you will be able to connect with listeners to talk about anything on your mind from big existential thoughts to small, day-to-day things that we all experience. Unlike talking to family or friends, a 7 Cups listener doesn’t judge or try to solve problems. 7 Cups listeners just listen. They understand. They give you the space you need to help you clear your head.

Once you create your account, you can find a listener in two ways. On the main portal page, you can connect with Listeners who specifically signed up to talk to people with migraine. There are also additional listeners available for other topics. To connect, click “Verified Listeners” or “Connect to a Listener” over our portal’s image. On our portal page, you will also find a link to the public forums page, to learn more about forums, scroll to the end of this page. There are forums on a number of topics.

Once you sign up to be a listener, you will go through your first Listener training. Once you finish training, you will be on your way to your first Listener practice chat. New chat requests will appear on the bottom of your screen.

Ways to Communicate on 7 Cups

One-on-One Chat

A one-on-one chat consists of a conversation between one member and one listener. A member will initiate a conversation when they are in need of support and will be connected to a listener. From there, the member can choose to talk about whatever is one their mind.

Forum Discussions

Forum discussions facilitate communications between all 7 Cups, whether they are listeners or members. The forum board will consist of a number of discussion points related to migraine. This is a great place to ask questions, as you will likely get many answers from different perspectives. Conversations on forums are on-going and open to users for an extended period of time.
